Past – Present – Future
The Past-Present-Future spread is probably the most popular of the three-card spreads, for both its simplicity and its meaningfulness. You start the reading by drawing three cards and placing them left to right in front of you.
The first card, the one on the left, is the past position. This card gives context, and can help guide your interpretation of the cards to come.
The second card, in the middle, represents the present. This card tells you where you are at right now, and shows the nature of the question at hand.
The third card, all the way to the right, is the future, and the card people are most interested in. It represents the likely outcome of your question or intention. Think back on the past and present cards when you are interpreting the future card.
Mind – Body – Spirit
The Mind, body, and spirit spread is another great three-card tarot spread for beginners. Much like the past, present, future spread, each of these cards should be considered individually and as a whole.
This is a good spread for those that struggle with inner conflict. While the mind and the spirit may have conflicting meanings, interpreting all of the cards together may help you see the bigger picture, and make a more intuitive decision.
Yes or No Tarot Spreads
This is the most simple of all of the tarot spreads, and as such many tarot readers are not too fond of this one. However, if you’re looking for a quick, easy answer to something, this could help.
The yes or no tarot reading seems simple, but there are several ways to do it. The easiest is upright or reversed. You simply flip half of the cards, and shuffle them. Think of your question, and draw a card. If the card is upright, the answer is yes. If it’s reversed, the answer is no. This answers a question easily, without context or interpretation.
Situation – Action – Outcome
Another three-card spread finishes out our four tarot spreads for beginners. This is a great spread for deciding the next step in an unclear situation.
Much like the rest, lay your three cards left to right. The first card is your situation, which is what you’re asking about. The second card, the one in the middle, is the action. The card on the right is the outcome this action will lead to.
