He Grew Up Inside The Ministry
Donnie grew up on the evangelistic road. He is the only son of evangelist Jimmy Swaggart and Frances Swaggart, and he traveled across the United States as a child while his father preached.
Jimmy Swaggart founded Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, which owns and operates SonLife Broadcasting Network.
As Jimmy’s ministry expanded into national and international crusades, Donnie worked as Crusade Director. He has now preached for more than 25 years.
His preaching centers on Pentecostal teaching about the Spirit. He has preached far beyond Louisiana, with Nigeria, Brazil, India, Canada, and Uruguay among the named stops.
The 1987 Ministry Was Huge
In 1988, a Los Angeles Times investigation into the ministry’s finances put Jimmy Swaggart World Ministries and its Bible college at $150 million in 1987 revenue, more than $500,000 each working day.
Viewers and donors supplied most of that money. Voluntary contributions reached $135 million through television ministry and fundraising letters. Gospel records and tapes, Bibles, books, and T-shirts filled out the rest.
Jimmy Swaggart’s television ministry appeared on 200 U.S. stations and reached 145 countries in English and 15 foreign languages.
Donnie was the organization’s director of marketing and development and sat on a family-controlled executive board. The payroll included 22 Swaggart relatives.
The family property picture was expensive, too. Jimmy’s home was valued at $1.5 million and Donnie’s at $726,000. Donnie and his wife had borrowed a total of $410,000, with later filings saying the loans had been paid off in June 1985.
Family Worship Center And SonLife Keep The Work Current
Today, Donnie’s public life is still tied to Baton Rouge and SonLife. He is a pastor and Spirit-filled evangelist known for Bible-based teaching and a fiery preaching style.
He co-pastors Family Worship Center Church, leads Holy Spirit Night Campmeetings, and appears regularly on SonLife Broadcasting Network programming.

Debbie And The Baton Rouge Family
Donnie’s wife is Debbie. His mother, Frances Swaggart, hosts the ministry talk program Frances and Friends.
Donnie and Debbie have three children: Jennifer, Gabriel, and Matthew. The official family list also names nine grandchildren.
Several of the children work in or near the ministry. Gabriel Swaggart leads a youth ministry called Crossfire Youth Ministry. Matthew works in photography and television graphics at the ministry. Jennifer is a teacher with a master’s degree in education.
His marriage history has one wrinkle. Donnie and Debbie divorced once. A later marriage to Judy also ended, and Debbie became his wife again in 2006.
