This page explains how KnowledgeNuts articles are researched, written, and kept up to date.
Sourcing
We research before we write. Primary material comes first: scientific papers, reference works, official records and statistics, historical archives, and statements from the people or organizations involved. Reporting from established news outlets fills in the rest. If a claim cannot be traced back to a reliable source, we leave it out.
Our articles link to the sources behind them, so you can read the original material yourself.
Estimates and dates
Some numbers are estimates by nature. When that is the case, we say so, and we give a range when sources disagree. Facts that change over time, such as prices, statistics, and records, are dated in the text so you know when they were current.
Updates
Knowledge goes out of date. Prices change, records get broken, and what was true when an article was published can stop being true a few years later. When we find an article that has fallen behind, we update it.
We are also working through our older articles one by one. The site has been publishing for a long time, and a lot of the earlier content no longer matches the current facts. Bringing those articles up to date is ongoing work, so if you come across one we have not reached yet, we would rather hear about it than have it sit there wrong.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it. If you spot an error, tell us through the Contact page with the article link and, if you have one, a source showing the correct information. We check every report, and when it holds up we correct the article.
